The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) protects the nation's transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce.
Pursuant to the REAL ID Act and regulation, starting May 7, 2025, state-issued drivers licenses and identification cards must be REAL ID compliant for domestic travel. All travelers 18 years and older must present an acceptable form of ID at TSA airport security screening checkpoints.
TSA accepts many forms of identification in addition to state-issued REAL IDs and enhanced drivers licenses. To help travelers prepare for new air travel regulations, TSA has released a new public service campaign that encourages travelers to come to the airport with an acceptable form of identification and avoid potential travel delays.
TSA updates the list of acceptable IDs at the TSA security checkpoint, and recommends that travelers visit tsa.gov/id well in advance of their travel to review the full list.
